A
new downhill mountain-biking game, titled Descenders, is now available for
purchase from Steam for £19.49/$24.99. The title, made by Ragesquid and
published by British label No More Robots, shows off in a debut trailer (viewable below) its
brand of high-octane gameplay and sharp graphics, which appear to be colourful
and atmospheric as well as ideal for tackling at a fast pace for some spectacular
imagery.
Players
can expect to be challenged by a wide variety of terrain and obstacles, with a
high-focus on stylised, downhill riding with plenty of tricks and spins thrown
in for good measure, where even a single mistake will be severely punishing;
focus in the game, then, will be on tricky manoeuvring while at the same time
adapting to the environmental challenges that come with extreme downhill
biking. This brand of extreme sports movement and racing seems to hit some parallels with memories of stylised games such as SSX 3 from the PS2 era.
Interestingly,
Descenders also boasts procedurally generated levels, so there will be a high
variety of tracks that will prove a unique experience with every run. The onus
of the game is also on skill; there are no upgrades in the game and players
will be expected to get better purely based on their growing skill. Also
promised are extra post-launch updates, among which are new bikes, modes and
maps. Whether these will be in the form of paid DLC has yet to be announced.
The
sound design of Descenders has been done by Power Up Audio, a company best
known for work on Crypt of the Necrodancer; a mix of rogue-like and rhythm game
elements. The game will also be supplemented by a fully licensed drum-and-bass
soundtrack to amplify the high-adrenaline sense of mountain biking.
Descenders
will also see a release for Xbox One in the near future, coming exclusively to
Xbox Game Preview.
