Stylistic
RTS game Fractured State, developed by Mechanical Monocle and published by GPAC
Games, is an interesting take on the genre that appears not only to have a
unique art style but also a new spin on traditional strategy gameplay; unlike
traditional entries in the genre, Fractured State’s gameplay focuses away from
complex micromanagement to instead focus on urban combat and map control.
Marching forward in its Early Access development, Fractured State has received
a new update that boasts new unit types including the Laperian Sharpshooter and
the Children of the Ancients’ Fanatic unit, as well as general improvements to
the game itself.

Each
unit boasts a unique skill that sets it apart from others to fill a strategic
niche; each faction has many kinds of units to create many approaches to the
frenetic combat gameplay, making for many different scenarios to test players’
abilities. The Sharpshooter, filling out the ranks of the Laperian faction in
game, is a long-range weapons specialist not unlike a sniper in other games.
Whereas the Fanatic is a unit that possesses magical abilities to confuse
opposing forces, causing them to turn on each other.

The
update to Fractured State also includes many balancing fixes, as well as
general gameplay and graphical improvements. A full list of the improvements
made are available on Fractured State’s website. The game is available on Steam
at a limited-time discount of 50%, with the full price being $9.99. Fractured
State’s developers boast a strong RTS pedigree, being made up of many creative
people with experience in modding other games in the genre. It appears
Mechanical Monocle share a love for Real Time Strategy, so it will be
interesting to see how Fractured State will continue to develop, as it already looks unique and fun in its current state.
