NEWS: RPG Horror The Sand Man launches on Steam, apes Nightmare on Elm Street

A JRPG-styled horror title, The Sand Man is part of an ongoing series published by Playism called ‘The Strange Man’. Developed by Uri Games, The Strange Man series has developed a cult following among fans of the RPG Horror genre.

In the game, the protagonist Sophie Grundler suffers from insomnia. Wandering into town, she finds that everybody has fallen asleep. Despite her best efforts, Sophie is unable to wake up her friends.

The Sand Man is a 2D horror game not very different from many RPG Horror games, but promises a game reminiscent of horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. The games trailer, viewable below, even goes so far as to re-enact a famous scene from the film, complete with Freddy Krueger-style glove.

Though it may not seem unique or original in a genre saturated with low budget titles, The Sand Man looks to offer an interesting take on RPG Horror with some tropes from film horror classics, which at its low price of 2.99 on Steam may prove attractive to fans of its particular niche.
